Make Your Own Clay Charm Bracelet: Step-by-Step DIY Guide

Clay Charm Bracelet

Have you heard of a push present? It’s a thoughtful tradition where a new mom receives a gift to celebrate the arrival of a child. Sometimes partners need a little hint about this custom, but it’s a lovely way to mark the occasion. For our third baby I wanted something personal and handmade: a pretty wrap bracelet with a charm for each child’s initial. Polymer clay makes the charms easy to craft, and a leather wrap keeps the bracelet simple and stylish.

To create the charms you only need a small amount of polymer clay. Roll a tiny piece into a smooth disc, then press the initial into the clay using a letter stamp or a small tool to form the impression. Make a small hole near the top of each disc with a toothpick so you can attach a jump ring later. Follow the clay manufacturer’s baking instructions to cure the charms.

Measure a length of leather cord long enough to wrap around your wrist multiple times. I wrapped mine four times and left a bit of extra length to tie a secure knot. Choose leather cords in colors you like to complement the clay charms and your wardrobe.

Use small jump rings to attach each baked charm to the leather cord. Once the charms are positioned where you want them, wrap the cord around your wrist and tie a knot to secure the bracelet. I found tying a knot easier and cleaner than attaching a lobster clasp—sometimes the simplest closure looks and works best.
