Kodiak Cakes Waffles: Fluffy Protein Waffle Recipe

Kodiak waffles are one of my go-to breakfasts because they’re quick to prepare and reliably delicious. Made from Kodiak protein pancake/waffle mix, each serving delivers 14g of protein and includes whole grains, making these waffles a healthier premix option. They’re perfect for busy mornings or a leisurely weekend brunch, and they shine when paired with a variety of fresh toppings.

Kodiak Waffles Buttermilk

On special mornings I like to set up a simple toppings bar so everyone can customize their waffles. A few thoughtful toppings instantly elevate these protein waffles into an impressive brunch centerpiece—no fuss, just bright flavors and textures that complement the waffles’ hearty base.

WHY KODIAK PROTEIN WAFFLES

Kodiak’s mixes are convenient and versatile. They’re designed to add protein and whole grains to a familiar favorite, so you don’t have to sacrifice nutrition for taste. These mixes make it easy to enjoy pancakes or waffles that keep you satisfied longer than a standard batter. Because they’re premixed, they’re also consistently easy to prepare—ideal for family breakfasts, a brunch with friends, or when you want a straightforward homemade meal that feels a little special.

TOPPINGS FOR KODIAK WAFFLES

I like taking a simple base and offering a few contrasting toppings so each plate feels unique. For this waffle bar I prepared three complementary toppings that cover sweet, fruity, and indulgent profiles.

Topping choices I made:

  • Caramelized banana & pecan
  • Strawberry compote
  • Peanut butter & chocolate chip
Protein Waffles Topped
Banana Pecan Waffles

Caramelized Banana & Pecan

Pan-frying bananas concentrates their sweetness and gives them a lovely caramelized surface. In a small non-stick skillet, warm a little extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add banana slices with a sprinkle of raw sugar and a drizzle of honey. Let the bananas brown on one side before flipping to caramelize the other side. When nearly done, toss in pecans to toast them lightly and release their nutty aroma. These warm, tender bananas and toasted pecans create a rich, comforting topping with pleasing texture contrast.

Strawberry Compote

Strawberry Compote

A quick strawberry compote brightens the waffles with fresh fruit flavor. Chop fresh strawberries and combine them in a small saucepan with a splash of water, a pinch of sugar, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook until the berries begin to break down and the liquid thickens slightly. The result is a vibrant, spoonable topping that’s both sweet and tart—perfect for balancing the waffle’s mild, wholesome flavor.

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip

This topping is wonderfully simple and indulgent. Warm your favorite peanut butter in short increments in the microwave until it becomes smooth and pourable. Stir in chocolate chips so they melt into the peanut butter or remain slightly molten for bursts of chocolate. Spoon this over the waffles for a rich, dessert-like option that still pairs well with the protein-rich base.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH THESE PROTEIN WAFFLES

These waffles work as the star of a brunch spread, and they pair nicely with savory sides to round out the meal. Consider adding a few simple accompaniments so guests can build a balanced plate.

Good pairing ideas:

  • Soft scrambled eggs — creamy eggs provide a mild, comforting contrast
  • Turkey bacon — a lean, smoky element
  • Turkey sausage — savory and filling without being heavy
  • Sweet potato hash — adds color and a hearty, earthy note
  • Fresh fruit platter — light, refreshing, and colorful

If you present a variety of toppings and a few savory sides, guests can mix and match to create plates they’ll love. It’s an easy way to host a relaxed brunch that still feels thoughtful and delicious.
