INGREDIENTS TO MAKE FRENCH TOAST BAKE
STREUSEL TOPPING:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/2 cup light or dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup chopped pecans
FRENCH TOAST:
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream or milk
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (or about 8–10 cups cubed stale French bread)
- 1 can apple pie filling or 3–4 cups sliced fresh apples

HOW TO MAKE BAKED FRENCH TOAST
PRE-STEP: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.
MAKE STREUSEL TOPPING
- In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and chopped pecans. Mix until crumbly. Set aside.
MAKE THE FRENCH TOAST
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream (or milk), nutmeg and vanilla extract.
- Open the cinnamon roll cans and slice each roll into eighths. Place the pieces in the prepared baking dish. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces, ensuring each piece is well coated.
- Spread the apple pie filling or fresh apple slices over the cinnamon roll pieces.
- Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake uncovered for 45–60 minutes, or until the top is lightly browned and the center is set. If desired, drizzle the cinnamon roll icing (from the cinnamon roll cans) or a simple cream cheese glaze over the top before serving.

TIPS FOR MAKING THE PERFECT FRENCH TOAST
- CINNAMON ROLLS OR BREAD: Refrigerated cinnamon rolls make this recipe quick and indulgent. If you prefer, use day-old French bread or challah—cut into cubes and add a touch more cinnamon for flavor.
- APPLE OPTIONS: Fresh apple slices add brightness and texture, especially in apple season. Canned apple pie filling is a convenient alternative that still tastes delicious.
- ICING: Drizzling the cream cheese icing from the cinnamon roll cans makes a lovely finish. Alternatively, serve plain, dust with powdered sugar, or drizzle a light maple glaze.
