Ingredients:

  • All-purpose flour
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • One 12 oz bottle of pale lager beer
  • Honey
  • Salted butter

That’s it. Simple, quick, and delicious. Below is a clear walkthrough so you can see how fast this comes together.

A partially sliced loaf of the beer bread

Start by whisking together the flour, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl. Add the beer and honey, then stir until the batter just comes together. The mixture will be lumpy and fairly thick—that’s normal.

Spoon the batter into a prepared 8½- or 9-inch loaf pan lined with parchment. Dot or layer thin slices of butter across the top of the batter.

Bake the loaf at 350°F (175°C) until a long knife inserted into the center comes out clean, about 52–56 minutes. Let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes before removing it to slice.

For the salted honey butter, mix softened salted butter with honey to taste and finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt if desired. Spread generously on warm slices.

This bread is best fresh from the oven. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days; they make fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches.

I hope you try this recipe—it’s quick, forgiving, and reliably delicious. Happy baking.

This classic beer bread is easy to make with six ingredients. Serve warm with salted honey butter.
Prep: 10 mins
Cook: 55 mins
Servings: 8 slices

Ingredients

For the Beer Bread

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • One 12 oz bottle pale lager beer
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup butter, thinly sliced (4 tbsp)

For Topping

  • Salted butter, honey, and flaky sea salt (for the salted honey butter)

Instructions

  • Prep: Line an 8½- or 9-inch loaf pan with parchment and spray any exposed spots with nonstick spray. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Make the Beer Bread: In a large bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the beer (use a fresh bottle so it’s not flat) and the honey, and stir until combined. Spread the lumpy batter evenly in the prepared pan and lay the butter slices over the top.
  • Bake: Bake for 52–56 minutes, until a long knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Serve + Store: Let the bread cool a few minutes in the pan. Stir honey into softened salted butter to make the salted honey butter, taste and adjust sweetness, and add flaky sea salt if desired. Slice and serve warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for a few days; best when fresh.
