Ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients:

img 218430 2
  • Hot dogs – 5 standard (or about 15 mini hot dogs).
  • Bacon – 1 slice per standard hot dog (use ½ slice per mini hot dog; long hot dogs may need 2 slices).
  • Hot dog buns.
  • Condiments – your favorites for serving.
  • Optional: sprinkle brown sugar on the bacon before wrapping for a touch of sweetness.

How To Assemble

Assembled hot dog wrapped in bacon with toothpicks.
Just a couple minutes of prep to secure with toothpicks and get ready to cook.
  1. Set up a workspace and have 2–3 toothpicks per hot dog ready.
  2. Wrap one piece of bacon tightly around each hot dog so the edges touch but don’t overlap; this helps the bacon cook evenly. For long hot dogs use two pieces; for standard hot dogs one piece is usually enough. Cut bacon in half for cocktail-size or mini hot dogs so it wraps without overlapping.
  3. Secure the ends of the bacon with toothpicks.

Air Fryer recipe

Air frying is fast and easy:

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  2. Optionally spray the basket with cooking spray. Place bacon-wrapped hot dogs in a single layer. Air fry 8 minutes, flip, then cook another 3–5 minutes until the bacon reaches your desired crispness.

Oven Baked recipe

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place bacon-wrapped hot dogs on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake about 13–16 minutes, or until the bacon is cooked evenly. Flipping is optional; do so if you want extra even browning.

Grill recipe

  1. Preheat the grill to high, roughly 400–425°F (200–220°C). Exact temperatures vary by grill.
  2. Oil or spray the grill grates so the hot dogs don’t stick. Place the bacon-wrapped hot dogs on the grill with the lid closed and cook 8–12 minutes, rotating every 2–3 minutes until the bacon is as crisp as you like. Remove pieces as they finish so they don’t overcook while others catch up.

Finishing and serving

  1. Remove hot dogs from the heat and let cool 1–2 minutes so they’re easy to handle.
  2. Remove the toothpicks, place each dog in a bun, and add condiments. A tasty combo is shredded cheddar and BBQ sauce, but use any toppings you prefer.
  3. Serve and enjoy.
